National Public Register of Recognised Data Altruism Organisations

Regulation (EU) 2022/868 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 May 2022 on European data governance and amending Regulation (EU) 2018/1724, in Chapter IV, and Law 34/2002 of 11 July on Information Society Services and Electronic Commerce, in Article 35 bis, regulate the national public register of recognised data altruism organisations.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation is the national competent authority responsible for the registration of data altruism organisations in this register.

The organisations registered here are non-profit entities that comply with the requirements laid down in Regulation (EU) 2022/868, with the aim of protecting the rights and interests of data subjects and businesses, fostering trust that data made available for altruistic purposes serve an objective of general interest, and facilitating the cross-border use of data within the Union and the emergence of data sets covering multiple Member States.

Once registered in the Register, these organisations have the right to use the designation “Recognised Data Altruism Organisation in the Union” and can be identified in their communications and websites by means of the European Commission’s logo for recognised data altruism organisations:

In accordance with Article 24.5 of Regulation (EU) 2022/868, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation also maintains a register of organisations whose registration has been revoked due to non-compliance with one or more of the requirements laid down in Chapter IV of that Regulation.

The European Commission will also maintain, for information purposes, a Union-level public register of recognised data altruism organisations.
